VALDERS, Wis. — The Escanaba gymnastic team settled for sixth place in the Valders Invitational Saturday but picked up some key lessons in the process.

Coach Theresa Pascoe said the competition was good, and noted “our girls took home some new ideas that they would like to try this week.”

Also of importance was the team saw a different style of judging. “The Wisconsin judges are very strict when it comes to connecting skills, jumps and/or leaps together. This is something our team really needs to work on improving,” she said.

The Eskymos finished with 104.75 points in the eight-team meet, which was won by Waupun with 125.95. Medford had 121.67, followed by Valders 119.25, Port Washington 111.55 and Markesan 107.22. Kaukauna followed Esky with 103.05 and Washburn 34.75.

Abbie Derouin paced the Eskymos, taking 10th in all-around, ninth in vault, 11th on floor and 14th on uneven parallel bars.

Caitlyn Davenport was 14th on floor and 22nd in vault, Liza Sliva was 22nd on bars and 24th on beam, Maddy Block was 18th in vault and Sophia Slight was 29th in vault.
