Bay women have 9-game winning streak snapped

WAUWATOSA, Wis. — A nine-game winning streak drew to a close for the Bay College women Wednesday night as they dropped a 62-56 basketball decision to the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats

Bay, which trailed by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, took a short-lived 48-47 lead on a layup by Taylor Hunter with six minutes left in the fourth.

The Norse were within 51-50 with four minutes left but failed to score for the next three minutes, which enabled Bryant & Stratton to gain an eight-point cushion.

“We came out on the short end, but our players never gave up,” said Norse coach Rob Robinson. “When we were down by 14 points early in the third quarter we could have folded, but we fought back and took the lead, and I am proud of this team for that.”

Jordan Kraemer had 16 points and nine rebounds and Juliann Wickman had 11 points and three assists for the Norse (13-6).

Taynique Hawthorne led the Bobcats (12-8) with 16 points, four boards and four steals in a reserve role. Brandilyn Robertson added 11 points, nine rebounds and eight blocked shots. Kiyanna Rodgers had 11 points, five boards and four steals.

The Norse grabbed a 10-2 lead, but trailed 35-25 at halftime.

Bay hit 14-of-17 free throws and just 18-of-71 field goals. They were outrebounded 62-40 and committed 19 turnovers. The Bobcats were 18-of-64 from the field and 23-of-32 from the ilne. They finished with 27 miscues.

The Norse, who scored 25 points off turnovers, visit Wisconsin-Waukesha tonight.
