Eagles roust Jets

STEPHENSON — Playing catch-up didn’t work out for the North Central girls Tuesday night in a 65-57 basketball loss to the Stephenson Eagles.

The Wolves trailed 18-10 after the first quarter of the Skyline Central Conference match-up.

“We scored right with them the rest of the time, but had to take shots quicker than we wanted in the end,” said Jets’ coach Lee Vincent. “They have three big girls. Rebounds were hard to get.”

Andie Arsenault led the Jets (1-1 overall and SCC) with 15 points. Bree Arsenault added 14 points and four steals. Chloe Wells tallied 10 points and four steals. Jadie Linder also had 10 points.

Emily Johnson paced the Eagles (2-1 on both counts) with 22 points. Autumn Rasner added 18, including nine in the opening frame. Makayla Johnson finished with 12 and Karley Kuntze had 10.

“Their two girls (Johnson and Rasner) shot well from outside,” said Vincent. “They were also good on their free throws. They were bigger and stronger than us. I’m proud of the way the girls played. We’re taking care of the ball better.”

North Central committed seven turnovers and collected 13 steals.

The Jets, who also dropped the jayvee game 52-26, host Munising Friday. Stephenson visits Menominee Thursday.
