Cougars rout Black Bears

Editor’s note: This game was played Monday and was inadvertenly omitted in Tuesday’s paper.

EDEN — Beau Rondeau scored 21 points and the Superior Central boys’ basketball team knocked off Big Bay de Noc 69-28 here Monday.

The Cougars (2-1) used a big second quarter to create a 30-point halftime lead in a rematch of last Tuesday’s season opener, a game the Cougars won 64-48.

“Our defense was a big factor,” Cougars’ coach Branson Richard said. “Holding them to 28 points was big for us. We’ve been working on defensive drills all week and it showed.”

The Cougars exploded for a combined 49 points in the second and third quarter after being held to just 12 in the first.

“Offensively we were a lot more controlled,” Richard said. “We had really good clock management and I felt like we were in control of the game from the get-go.”

It was a tough night for the Black Bears (0-2).

“Their (Black Bears) shots weren’t falling like they were at home against us,” Richard said. “Especially the three ball.”

Rondeau led the Cougars with 21 points, while DJ Johns added 11.

Alex LaLonde led the Black Bears with eight points.

Big Bay hosts Forest Park Thursday, while the Cougars visit North Central Monday.
