Bay men, women both pick up wins

IRONWOOD — Defense stood out for both the Bay College men’s and women’s baskeetball teams here Friday in the Gogebic Winter Classic.

The women turned in a brilliant defensive effort to upend LaCrosse, Wis. Western Tech 43-33. Bay’s men clipped Western Tech 71-51

Both teams play Leach Lake, Minn. Tribal College today.

The Western Tech women were able to hit just 19-of-89 field goals as Bay’s defense was dominant. Kerrigan Lyga had 11 points for Western Tech, a third of her team’s output.

Western Tech trailed 18-13 at halftime and never threatened in the second half.

Sophomore Jordan Kraemer of Norway had 16 points for the Norse, who hit 24=of-88 field goals.

In the men’s game, Bay had three players with double figure points, topped by 12 from freshman Ryan Robinette of Escanaba. The Norse hit 55-of-127 field goals.

Bay led 39-30 at halftime and never let Western Tech get in contention by forcing 27 turnovers.
