Rapid River tripped up by Munising

MUNISING — Rapid River hung with Munising for two sets, but couldn’t keep up with the Mustangs in the final two sets of a 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-14, 25-10) volleyball loss here Tuesday night.

“We played well against a hard hitting team tonight,” said Rockets’ assistant coach Hannah Michael. “The first two sets, we got under a lot of balls and got some good kills. In the last two sets we struggled to pass the ball, but overall I think we played well.”

The Rockets, fueled by Jenna Rubick’s serving, scored the first five points of the opener. They secured the second set on a seven-point service run by Adieu Christ and took a 6-0 lead on Rubick’s serving in the third.

Rapid River’s Gabby Moss finished with eight kills and a block. Rubick recorded 13 assists. Kristin Goodacre tallied 16 digs and Christoff added 15.

The Rockets visit Mid Peninsula Thursday.

The summary:

Rapid River — Goodacre (two aces, four kills, 16 digs); Thibault (one ace, five kills, two blocks, one dig); Moberg (one ace, one assist, seven digs); Moss (eight kills, one block, one dig); Rubick (five kills, one block, 13 assists, eight digs); Berg (one kill, one assist, 10 digs); Christoff (one assist, 15 digs).
