Key block boosts C-N

CARNEY — Ashlynn Hansen provided the Carney-Nadeau Wolves with a match-winning block Tuesday night, helping them rally past the Munising Mustangs 3-2 (25-27, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 15-13) in a key Skyline Central Conference match.

“We were down 4-0 right off the bat in the fifth set,” said Carney coach Steve Kedsch.

“We’re leaning on a couple sophomores (Taylor Kedsch and Liana Blahnik) and they’re playing real well right now.

“I thought Taylor really stepped up tonight. She was rock solid on defense, and when it was tight she was hitting the ball well and we kept going to her.”

Taylor Kedsch recorded 12 kills and 18 digs. Sandra Boulton added 10 kills and 11 digs. Blahnik finished with nine kills and three blocks Talisha McCullough collected 17 assists and 12 digs and Zoey Poupore had 14 digs.

“We knew they were a very good team,” said coach Kedsch. “They had a middle hitter who did a terrific job. She’s a very good player.”

Carney, which also won the jayvee match (25-15, 25-6) visits North Central for a make-up match Oct. 10.

The summary:

Carney-Nadeau — Blahnik-Thoune (four aces, three kills, nine assists, 12 digs); Blahnik (three aces, nine kills, three blocks); Boulton (two aces, 10 kills, 11 digs); Kedsch (12 kills, 18 digs); Harris (four kills, 12 digs); Hansen (three kills, five blocks, two digs); McCullough (17 assists, 12 digs); Poupore (14 digs).
