Jam Dam scramble won by Boerschinger, Soper

WILSON — It was a tight race for top honors between a pair of Wilson residents in the Second Annual Jam Dam Scramble five-kilometer run, with Solomon Boerschinger edging Kyler Soper by .1 second for his first overall title.

The leaders covered the hilly 3.1-mile course in 22 minutes, 50 seconds, with Nick Kasbohm of Nadeau taking third (24:02) on this sunny and seasonably cool morning.

“I just wanted to keep my pace and my friend Kyler kept pushing me,” said Boerschinger. “The conditions were wonderful.”

Melanie Soper of Carney was crowned women’s champion (30:37). Followed by Natalie Gatien of Powers (31:34) and Jasmine Richards of Wilson (34:15).

The event drew 49 runners and walkers, including six-year-old Julia Richards of Wilson who was clocked at 41:10.
