Emeralds volleyball runnerup at Charlevoix
CHARLEVOIX, Mich. — The Manistique Emeralds made more than a little noise Saturday, earning runner-up honors in the Charlevoix Invitational volleyball meet.
Rudyard topped the Emeralds 25-14, 26-24 for the title.
“I have to give credit to the team’s mentality,” said Emeralds’ coach Amy Nixon. “They weren’t about to go down without a fight. This definitely gives us confidence for the rest of the season. We’re very happy with our performance.”
Manistique rallied past Roscommon (15-25, 25-14, 15-10) in the semifinals.
In pool play, the Emeralds split with Cheboygan (25-21, 22-25) and beat Pellston (25-15, 25-19) and Indian River Inland Lakes and Brimley in two sets.
Manistique’s Emilee McDaniel, who had 53 kills and seven blocks, was selected to the all-tournament team.
The Emeralds host Iron Mountain in a key Mid-Peninsula Conference match tonight.
