Gladstone slowpitch women’s softball

GLADSTONE — After winning the Gladstone Women’s Slowpitch Softball tournament championship last year, Stewart Manufacturing has not lost this season as it hopes to repeat as tourney champs this weekend.

Stewart finished the regular season 22-0 and is the obvious favorite when the tournament begins Friday night with four games. Stewart has outscored its’ 22 victims 215-53 this season.

Stewart will launch its title defense Saturday noon in Rapid River, facing the winner of Friday’s 6 p.m. opener at Rapid River between Granada Bar and Young’s Formal Wear/Sage Run.

Other opening night games have Water’s Edge Chiropractiic/King Pizza facing Mugshots at 7 p.m. Friday in Rapid River, while in Gladstone, Viau’s Market/Race Driven plays Rapid River Logistics at 6 p.m. and Elmer’s County Market faces Ernie’s Irish Pub at 7 p.m.

Elmer’s won the regular season title in 2017 but lost to Stewart in the tourney finale.

Also drawing first-night byes are IMS, Delta County Credit Union and Island Resort & Casino.

The championship game is set for 3 p.m. Sunday, with another game, if required, at 4 p.m.

All of Saturday’s and Sunday’s games will be played in Rapid River.

Final regular season standings: Stewart 22-0, DCCU 18-4, Island Resort 16-6, Elmer’s and IMS 14-8, Water’s Edge/King Pizza and Viau’s Market/Race Driven 13-9, Young’s Formal/Sage Run 7-15, Mugshots and Ernie’s 5-16-1, Granada 4-18 and Rapid River Logistics 0-22.
