Marquette sweeps Gladstone Invite

GLADSTONE — The Marquette track teams proved formidable at even less than full strength Thursday as they won both ends of the first Gladstone Invitational.

Marquette’s boys scored 106 points, followed by Gladstone 53, Escanaba 51 and Norway 31.

The Marquette girls had 101, followed by Gladstone 74, Escanaba 70 and Norway 4.

Gladstone junior Adam Bruce won the 1600-meter run in four minutes, 39.61 seconds.

“We kept Adam out of the 3200 because he was feeling under weather,” said Braves’ coach Gary Whitmer. “I think everybody was a little tired, but it was good to get another meet in before the regional (D-1 at Marquette May 18).

Marquette’s Jonas Blue was a double-winner, taking the 200 (23.35) and 300 hrudles (42.61)

Teammate Luke Rambo, despite battling battling shin splints, took the 3200-meter run in 10 minutes, 15.14 seconds in his season debut and Garrett Rudden copped the 400 (53.16).

Freshman Calvin Thibault added a first for Gladstone in the 110 hurdles (15.19) and placed second in the 300 hurdles (42.91) and 200 (23.61).

Dayton Miron provided a first in pole vault at 11 feet, six inches for Esky, which took the 400 (46.35) and 800 relay (1:37.74).

Norway got firsts from Mitch Legrave in the 100 (11.58) and Connor Ortman in long jump (21-1/2).

In the girls’ meet, Marquette’s Delaney Sall captured the 400 (1:01.96), 800 (2:40.4) and helped the winning 1600 relay (4:31.8) and Rachael Hunt added victories in the 200 (28.04) and long jump (15-1/2).

Gladstone senior Saige Sisson won shot put (32-2) and discus (94-0) and freshman Ahna Larson took the 300 hurdles (50.36) and was runner-up in the 200 (29.58) and third in the 100 hurdles (18.8).

Esky junior Courtney Boyle captured the 100 hurdles in 17 seconds and freshman Anna Smith and Marquette’s Rebecca Yates shared first in high jump (4-6).
