Ems 4th at Newberry Invite

Prep track and field

NEWBERRY — The Manistique boys placed in 10 events Tuesday, placing fourth among 12 track teams in the Newberry Invitational.

“We missed third by only four points,” said Emeralds’ coach Ashlee Eisinger. “It was a great day to have a meet and really helpful to get on the track one more time before regionals.”

Sophomore Schyler Andersen won the 400-meter dash in 54.41 seconds, placed second in shot put at 39 feet, six inches and helped the Emeralds place fourth in the 800 relay (1:43).

Classmate Alex Misniakiewicz took third in the 1600 (4:53) and 3200 (10:57) and fourth in the 800 (2:12) and was part of the third-place 3200 relay (9:14).

“Schyler had a great race in the 400, placing first overall and having a personal-best after running with just four people in the slower heat,” said Eisinger. “Mitchell Green stepped up for us, running two 400s after running the 400 for the first time today.”

Senior Logan Pawley took fourth in pole vault (10-0), with sophomore Tony Williams fifth (9-0).

Freshman Drew Robertson placed fifth in the 3200 (11:33) and sixth in the 1600 (5:11) and junior Matt Wood was sixth in the 110 hurdles (21.59).

“Drew and Alex continue to place well in the distance races,” said Eisinger. “Drew ran his fastest time of the year in the mile. Tylor Greene did score any team points, but set personal records in all four of his events today. I am anxious to see what he can do in the future.”

Manistique, which placed fourth in the 1600 relay (4:02) and fifth in the 400 (51.06), hosts the Division 2 regional Friday at 4 p.m.
