Braves win boys’ title at Invite

Esky boys, girls finish second

MARQUETTE — The two golf teams from the “banana belt” of the Upper Peninsula emerged with solid afternoons at the Marquette Invitational Wednesday.

Gladstone took the boys title with a score of 313, while Escanaba finished second at 327 and the host Redmen took third with 331. The Braves’ Rudy Peterson finished as the medalist after shooting a 73, four strokes ahead of Negaunee’s Jordan Mason and Esky’s Trevor Denome.

Gladstone’s Andy Pouliot and Marquette’s Ethan Sellers (both with 78) rounded out the top five.

On the girls side, it was Menominee who won the meet with Escanaba finishing second. The Eskymos’ Paxton Johnson was the girls medalist with an 82. Munising’s Taylor Downs took second with a 90 and Gladstone’s Sophia Lippens was third with a 96. Menominee teammates Arikah Bellisle and Olivia Badker finished fourth and fifth respectively with both shooting a 98.
