GRAND RAPIDS – The Escanaba competitive cheer team finished seventh in the Division 3 state finals Saturday at the Delta Plex in Grand Rapids.

The Eskymos posted a total score of 748.92 points for seventh place in the eight-team field.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep captured its fifth straight Division 3 title with a 776.48 score. The Irish were followed by Richmond (771.50), Monroe Jefferson (764.88), Flat Rock (757.32), Lake Odessa Lakewood (751.22), Charlotte (749.36), Escanaba (748.92) and Comstock Park (747.28).

“We fought hard and did our best,” Esky coach Kris Langlois said. “Our goal was to not place eighth and we accomplished that.”

Langlois also credited his nine seniors for their commitment to the program — Chloe Caswell, Kenzie Romps, Faith Roberts, Lindsey Popelka, Victoria Collins, Tegan Christensen, Madison Kolich, Carlie Mattonen and Karlie Ohman.

“I have nine seniors who have been unreplaceable since they were in seventh grade,” Langlois said. “What a run, I couldn’t be more proud.”
