NLY swimmers set new records

MANITOWOC, Wis — Three Northern Lights YMCA swimmers set records last weekend when the team competed in the annual Manty Invite at the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA.

Esther Oswald set a team record and finished in the girls’ 13-14 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.43. She also placed second in the 100 freestyle and the 50 freestyle.

Anna Rouleau broke a 14-year-old record in the girls’ 11-12 50 freestyle (26.45) while placing first. She also broke her own 200 freestyle record (2:08.51). She finished the day with another first place finish in the 100 freestyle and took second in the 100 individual medley.

“Anna and Esther work hard at every practice and challenge each other,” said NLY coach Scott Dykema. “Just when I think they can’t go any faster they prove me wrong. The 50 free record was an incredible record to beat.”

Taylor McFarlane placed first in both the girls’ 15 and over 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle and finished third in the 500 freestyle.

Irene Neumeier finished second in the girls’ 9-10 100 freestyle. Her sister Annabelle Neumeier had a strong showing in the girls’ 11-12 50 freestyle posting a time of 29.69.

Nate Lanaville qualified for state in the 500 freestyle while Manny Oswald and Ava Rouleau each swam to individual bests.
