Esky girls advance to state finals
BAY CITY — The Escanaba girls’ bowling team finished third in the Division 2 regional Saturday at Bay City and qualified for the state finals.
The Eskymos totaled a third-place score of 3443, with Liz Taylor leading the way with a 521 series. Esky’s Lindsey Juhl also finished fourth in the individual regional with a 1155 total and will join the other Top 10 bowlers for the individual state finals.
The team and individual finals will take place at Canton Friday.
Flint Kearsley (3783) won the regional, followed by Croswell-Lexington (3466) and Escanaba (3443). The top three teams advance to the state finals. Iron Mountain (3353) was fourth and Marquette (3138) sixth.
Other Esky girls were: Dakota Cloutier 15th, Taylor 16th, Mariah Sullivan 23rd, Kelsey Polequin 45th and Macy Leisenring 54th.
The Esky boys finished 10th with a 3370 total. The top three teams were Cadillac (4052), Iron Mountain (3914) and Flint Kearsley (3829). Marquette (3598) also placed seventh.
Jake Worthen led the Eskymos by placing third with a six-game total of 1297 to advance to the state individual finals. Other Esky bowlers were: Josh Worthen 42nd, James Peacock 44th, Matt Cordy 71st, Shamus Mold 80th and Lucius Padaoan 84th.
In Division 3 regional action at Cheboygan, the Gladstone boys were 13th with a 3236 total. The top three teams were Cheboygan (4039), Gladwin (3921) and Standish Sterling (3862). Menominee (3764) also was fifth and Ishpeming (3649) was eighth.
The Gladstone boys’ bowlers were: Ben Flaminio 33rd, Jacob Siedlecki 39th, Josh Bilkey 41st and James Dietsch 52nd.
