HARRIS — The Bark River-Harris boys’ basketball team sent its seniors off on a high note on senior night as it pulled away from Carney-Nadeau in the second half for a 60-46 victory.

“I thought we came out really well,” said BR-H coach Jim VanEnkevort. “I thought we played really good defense and on the offensive end I thought we really moved the ball and made the extra pass. I think that really made a difference in the outcome of the game.”

The Broncos (10-5) worked the ball and got the best possible shot and made an impressive 25-for-46 (54 percent) from the field while the Wolves (9-6) shot 16-for-50 (32 percent).

“We played terrible defense,” said C-N coach Jake Polfus. “We can’t give up layup after layup after layup and not talk at the defensive end.”

The Broncos got off to a hot start going up 10-2. Brett LaFord hit two 3-pointers for C-N towards the end of the quarter pulling within one until Logan Heim hit a 3-pointer of his own to put BR-H up 14-10 going into the second quarter.

The Broncos went on an 8-3 run to open the second period to push the lead up to nine. The rest of the quarter would play out pretty even with the Broncos leading 25-17 at the half.

The third quarter saw both teams go back-and-forth with the Wolves hovering within six points until BR-H closed out the quarter on a 7-3 run that included a buzzer-beating 3-point shot from Ryan Arndt to lift the Broncos to a 44-34 lead going into the final quarter.

“Anytime you can hit a shot at the buzzer it gives you momentum into the next quarter,” said VanEnkevort. “That’s always a nice little pick-me-up you know.”

The Broncos sure responded in the next quarter starting on an 8-0 run that gave them their largest lead of the game at 18.

The Wolves started off the quarter missing their first five shots but did their best to try to get back into the game making four of their last five shots and two free-throws but only managed to come within 13.

“I will never complain about our offense,” said Polfus. “We got the shots we wanted. But defensively you got to be better than that. Bark River’s a good team but you can’t give up that many points in the lane.”

Arndt led the Broncos with 18 points and Heim added 12.

Jake Kleiman was the leading scorer for the Wolves with 17 points while Brett Laford added 14.

BR-H travels to Forest Park Friday while C-N takes on North Dickinson on the road the same night.
