YMCA sets winter basketball programs
ESCANABA — The YMCA will host many different basketball programs for youth in January. Little Dunkers will be for coed children ages 4 and 5 years old. It is designed for learning the basic fundamentals of basketball such as shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, defense, and teamwork.
The Y’s next level program is Beginning Basketball, which is for coed youth ages 6 and 7 years old. The main focus will be to learn the skill development and gameplay of the sport.
The YMCA also will offer their Coed Annual Basketball League and Cheerleading. The basketball league will be available for boys in 3rd and 4th grade as well as girls in 3rd through 5th grades. The main focus will be to further learn/sharpen techniques, while also playing in more organized gameplay.
The Cheerleading program is offered for ages 5 to 10 years old. This program is geared towards learning the proper warm-ups, basic motions, as well as jumps, cheers, and chants. The group will cheer once a week at the league games.
