Superior Central routs Flint-area grid squad

Prep football

FLINT — Superior Central scored on its first play from scrimmage and rolled to a 62-7 non-conference football victory Saturday against the Michigan School for the Deaf.

Quarterback Beau Rondeau connected with DJ Johns on a 40-yard TD pass on the Cougars’ first play from scrimmage. Rondeau completed all three of his passes for 48 yards and a TD and ran for 41 yards, including a 7-yard TD score in the first quarter.

The Cougars led 40-0 after the first quarter and 46-7 at halftime.

SC (3-5) totaled 340 rushing yards on 22 attempts, with Fink collecting 151 yards on six carries and two scores, Austin Swetich gaining 55 yards on four carries and Josh Kulik added 49 yards on three carries, including a 41-yard run in the first quarter.

Fink had TD runs of 41 yards in the first quarter and 49 yards in the second quarter.

Wade Krysiak supplied a 56-yard punt return for a TD in the first quarter and a 20-yard TD run in the third quarter. And Swetich returned an interception 73 yards for a score in the third quarter.

Noah Groulx led the Cougars’ defense with seven solo tackles, Krysiak registered three sacks and six tackles and Devin Kearney had a sack. Recovering fumbles for SC were James Maki, Nathan Frusti and Jack Rondeau.

Superior Central coach Sam Eggleston was pleased with his team’s effort on a very rainy day in Flint.

“This was an overnight trip and we stayed on campus with them,” Eggleston said. “Overall, it was an amazing experience. Our guys learned sign language and played basketball against these kids from downstate. We really enjoyed the experience and hope to play them again.”

Superior Central will host Rapid River Saturday in its homecoming game. The Rockets pulled out a 48-40 double overtime win in Week 2.

“I expect it will be a hard-fought game decided in regulation,” Eggleston said about the rematch.
