Braves draw, Esky swept


IRON MOUNTAIN — Gladstone relied on strong doubles play Tuesday en route to a 4-4 tie against host Iron Mountain.

Gladstone won three of the four doubles matches and the Mountaineers claimed three singles matches.

“Doubles had a great day,” Gladstone coach Dan Williams said. “(No. 1, 2 and 3) all had solid wins today. Volleying and placement of the ball was much better.”

Winning doubles teams for Gladstone were Sydney Herioux and Taylor Trudeau at No. 1, Hannah Sharon and Shelby Martinucci at No. 2 and Alaina Trudeau and Olivia Saari at No. 3.

Andie Balenger produced Gladstone’s lone win in singles at No. 1 with a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Saylor Swartout.

At Marquette, the Redettes took care of business, winning all eight matches in two sets.

Marquette got singles victories from Hannah Swajanen (No. 1), Elysa Olivier (No. 2), Lexi Anderson (No. 3) and Molly Kilpela (No. 4).

Marquette also took care of business in doubles with the closest match at No. 1, when Ashlee Tripp and Rachael Hunt defeated Esky’s Abby Knudsen and Heather Bergstrom 7-5, 6-2.

The Redettes play at Ishpeming at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
