MANISTIQUE — The Munising football team used a strong first half to pull away from Manistique Friday night.

The Mustangs scored 27 points in the first half on their way to a 34-8 victory.

“We made too many mistakes tonight,” said Manistique coach Todd Kangas. “It gets to be frustrating at times. We played better in the second half and I do see some promise in our guys.”

Munising got the scoring started eary with a 1-yard touchdown run and five minutes later scored on a 4-yard run from quarterback Alec Blank to take a 14-0 first quarter lead.

The Mustangs kept up the pace with a 5-yard run from Christian Cole in the second quarter. With four seconds left in the half Munising scored again on a 30-yard pass play to take a 27-0 lead into halftime.

Munising got on the board again in the third quarter with a 5-yard run from Blank.

Manistique scored the only points of the fourth quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run from quarterback Alex Oas.

“We were a little more physical in the way that we played,” said Kangas on the second half.

“It takes us a while for us to get a feel for the way things are. We didn’t play well in the first half but they showe up in the second and I believe they are starting to put it together.”

Logan Savage ran the ball 15 times for 88 yards for the Emeralds and Schyler Andersen rushed for 55 yards on 10 carries.

Oas passed for 17 yards on 4-10 passing and three interceptions.
