Norway tops Mid Pen spikers

ST. NICHOLAS — The Mid Peninsula Wolverines couldn’t quite compensate for a slow start Tuesday night as they dropped a 3-2 (25-8, 21-25, 14-25, 25-12, 15-12) volleyball decision to the Norway Knights.

“Except for the first set, I’d say we played real well,” said Mid Pen coach Emily Kayser. “We had quite a few serve receive errors and lacked communication at first. This was our first time playing Norway. They have tremendous hitters and a lot of numbers. This was a very good experience for us. This was also a confidence builder because we hung with a Class C school.”

Kennedy Englund led the Wolverines at the net with 11 kills and four blocks. Haley Trudell added seven kills and four blocks to go with seven service aces and McKenna LaCosse collected 10 assists.

“Kennedy had an awesome match at the net,” said Kayser. “She was very aggressive.”

Elli Paulsen was Mid Pen’s defensive leader with 18 digs. Trudell finished with 12 and Englund added 11.

Mid Pen, which also dropped the jayvee match (25-20, 25-17), hosts Carney-Nadeau Thursday.
