Rapid River sweeps Munising in softball
RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River softball team generated 27 runs in a double-header sweep Wednesday over visiting Munising.
The Rockets won the first game 11-1 in six innings and downed the Mustangs 16-1 in a four-inning nightcap.
In the opener, Brittany Schwartz pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts, one walk and one run allowed in five innings. Munising took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after stringing together three straight singles.
Rhiley Hubert pitched the sixth and struck out two.
Erica Rubick and Hubert each had two hits and two RBIs and Schwartz led off the fifth inning with a solo homer over the left-field fence.
In Game 2, the Rockets (6-3) benefited from an eight-run third inning. Gwen Naeyaert was 2-for-2 with a two-run triple and Rubick also added a two-run double in the third inning.
Hubert pitched the first three innings, allowing three hits, striking out four and walking one. Freshman Kristen Goodacre pitched the fourth and allowed one run.
Bark River-Harris 15-15, Marquette JV 0-0
BARK RIVER — The Bark River-Harris softball team swept the Marquette jayvee team Wednesday in a pair of four-inning games.
In the opener, Josie Bower pitched the win with a one-hitter, five strikeouts and one walk. Kesley Boucher had two hits and three runs scored, Josie Greenfield tripled and knocked in one run and Paige Welch tripled and scored two runs.
The Broncos totaled seven hits and erupted for seven runs in the third inning.
In Game 2, sophomore Eden Oswald had a solid showing. She pitched the win with a one-hitter, walking four and striking out eight. She also was 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and five RBIs.
