Esky tennis beats Menominee 6-2
MENOMINEE — The Escanaba boys tennis team had a full squad Friday and defeated host Menominee 6-2.
The Eskymos won three singles matches and three doubles matches.
“It was the first time we had all our guys there,” Esky coach Tom Penegor said. “It was a good team victory. Last year Menominee took it to us, it was nice to get some of that back this year.”
The day’s best match came at No. 1 singles, where Menominee’s Jon Antilla defeated Josh Grassel 7-6, 5-7, 7-6 in a three-hour battle.
“It went two tie-breakers and was hard-fought, evenly matched,” Penegor said. “It’s too bad somebody had to lose.”
Christer Carne, Nathan Pascoe and Cody Stevens won their singles matches for the Eskymos.
Esky’s victorious doubles teams were Addam Claes and Brandon Kangas, Alex Valentine and Soren Thompson; and Chris LeMire and Max Shariff.
Esky will host Gladstone Monday.
