Munising tops vote

ESCANABA — The Munising Mustangs posted a perfect 20-0 overall record and won the Skyline Central Conference’s East Division title, so it should not be surprising to see two players earn all-conference honors Monday

Senior Frankie Mattson was selected player of the year by league coaches and fellow senior Marissa Immel was a unanimous first-team selection. Junior Hannah Cross of Forest Park was also unanimous first-team.

Also on the first team are seniors Kelsey Boucher of Bark River-Harris and Allissa Willa of North Central and juniors Brooke Dalgord of Big Bay de Noc, Sara Sivula of Carney-Nadeau and Emma Rondeau of Superior Central.

There are eight players on the second team, topped by senior Sarah Hanson of Mid Peninsula, who earned unanimous acclaim. She is joined by teammate Haley Trudell, a junior, along with senior Bailey Downs and junior Kianne Wendt of Munising, senior Erica Rubick of Rapid River, junior Juliann Wickman of North Dickinson, sophomore Cassidi Stannard of Bark River-Harris and freshman Sierra Debelak of North Central.

Earning honorable mention are seniors Jenna Grabowski, Hannah Logan and Becky Kolenda of Forest Park, senior Maddy Wells of North Central, juniors Elizabeth Goodacre of Rapid River and Kelsey Ackerman of Munising, and sophomores Holly Stapleton of Big Bay de Noc and Chloe Wells of North Central.

Three players were unanimous selections on the defensive all-star unit, Boucher, Immel and Marrisa Ackerman of Munising. They are joined by Hanson, Dalgord, Cross and Goodacre.

Kolenda was named sportsmanship winner, Wendt was the free-throw champion, and Rapid River was named team sportsmanship winner.
