Late BR-H outburst nails Jets

POWERS — The Bark River-Harris Broncos scored the final 17 points of the game here Monday night to stun North Central 67-50 in a Skyline Central Conference girls basketball game.

BR-H also began the game on an 11-0 run to set the stage for a sweep of the two-game regular season series between the neighbors.

“We ended up locking down on defense in the fourth quarter,” BR-H coach Josh Eagle told the Daily Press of Escanaba. “We played a little stall ball once we got the lead.”

The Broncos led 37-31 at halftime before North Central drew to 50-50 late in the third quarter. The Jets failed to score in the fourth quarter, missing all 12 shots.

North Central coach Nikki Linder said the Jets got a defensive stop on the next possession after tying the score, then had a turnover. “We couldn’t find a groove after that,” she told the Daily Press, noting Chloe Wells was also saddled with four fouls “and that inhibited us.”

Wells had 17 points and Sierra Debelak had 16 points for the Jets, who hit 20-of-46 field goals.

Kelsey Boucher led the balanced Broncos with 17 points, Megan Robinette had 14, Cassi Stannard 13 and Paige Welch 12. “We had an excellent team effort,” said Eagle.

The Jets (11-8 overall, 6-7 league) played without Alissa Willa, who suffered a sprained knee and bruised bone last week at North Dickinson.

BR-H (12-7, 10-3) hosts top-ranked Forest Park Thursday in the regular season finale. North Central hosts Mid Pen Thursday in its finale.
