Mustangs roll along

MUNISING — The Munising girls basketball team clamped down early to defeat Rapid River 67-41 here Friday night.

The Mustangs (10-0) took a halftime lead of 44-18 and never looked back.

The Rockets (3-6) played much better in the second half as both teams scored an even 23.

Despite the loss Rapid River coach Jen King was proud of the way her team played.

“We played a really good team,” said King. “We handled their press well and were able to run our offense.”

King was especially proud of how her team responded in the second half.

“We talked about what we needed to do,” said King. “We played good zone defense. We kept fighting and I’m proud of them.”

Junior Kelsea Ackerman led Munising with 18 points while senior Frankie Mattson and junior Kianne Wendt each scored 14.

Senior Erica Rubick led the Rockets with 13 points and junior Rachel Bintner added 12.

Rapid River hosts Bark River-Harris Monday.
