Hannahville tops Paradise for 2nd win

PARADISE — The Hannahville boys overcame some shaky monents in the second quarter Saturday in a 62-40 basketball triumph over the Paradise Rockets.

Hannahville led 16-9 after the first quarter and 37-27 at halftime of the Northern Lights League contest.

“We got off to a good start, but I wasn’t happy with our second quarter,” said Hannahville coach Mark Gauthier. “We were up 31-11, then we got lax and kind of let them back in the game. In the second half, we played some good basketball. We had real good ball movement. It was good to get two wins under our belts this weekend.”

David Welling scored 25 points. Mason Thunder hit a career-high 15 and John Meshigaud had 11 for the Soaring Eagles (2-7 overall, 2-6 league). Liam Pigeau led the Rockets with 19.

“Mason was very impressive for an eighth-grader,” said Gauthier. “This was real good for him and John had a good second quarter.”

The Soaring Eagles host Big Bay de Noc tonight.
