Hannahville earns first boys’ cage win

PARADISE — The Hannahville boys presented Mark Gauthier with his first coaching victory Friday night as they posted a 64-56 basketball triumph over the Paradise Rockets.

Hannahville led 33-22 at halftime of the Northern Lights League match-up.

“The kids were pretty excited,” said Gauthier. “We used a full-court press the whole time. That created a lot of turnovers and we scored off those. We kind of threw out the playbook and let the kids play and it seemed to work for them.”

David Welling led the Soaring Eagles (1-7 overall, 1-6 league) with a career-high 31 points and 24 rebounds. Mason Thunder added a career-best 14 points and 15 boards.

“They were able to clean up the glass,” said Gauthier. “We also got the ball inside to David and he got to the line quite a bit.”

Lian Pigeau scored 27 points and Jeremy Planck had 13 for the Rockets.

The teams were scheduled to play again this morning.
