Lights out for Broncos

Hot shooting BR-H drills Mid Pen

HARRIS — There was no stopping the Bark River-Harris boys basketball team Thursday night.

The Broncos shot the lights out as they defeated Mid Peninsula 77-34 in a Skyline Central Conference game.

“I’ve been around a long time and I’ve never seen a team shoot that well,” said Wolverines coach Mark Branstrom. “I’m not sure it was how bad we played but how well Bark River played.”

BR-H coach Jim VanEnkevort was pleased the way his team played as he pointed to a few areas where his team excelled.

“We shared the ball really well and pushed the ball up the floor pretty well tonight,” said VanEnkevort. “We also shot lights out tonight which is pretty hard to explain.”

Junior Ryan Arndt had 18 points and sophomore Hunter Debelak had 13 points coming off the bench for the Broncos.

“I don’t think Hunter missed,” said VanEnkevort. “He had five field goals and if he missed he probably only missed one.”

“I think Ryan Arndt had a really nice game. He was aggressive right from the beginning and he attacked the basket.”

The Broncos came soaring out of the the gate playing tough defense and pushing the ball as they solidified a 24-5 lead after the first quarter.

Things didn’t change in the second quarter as BR-H continued to shoot well and increased the lead to 51-14 at halftime. The Broncos shot 21-31 from the field in the first half as the Wolverines only shot 5-30.

The Broncos didn’t slow down in the third quarter as they were able to start with a 13-2 run to increase their lead to 69-24 heading into the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss Branstrom felt there were some positives they can build on for the future.

“The biggest possitive was that they kept their heads up,” said Branstrom. “They kept working and I was happy with that.”

Mid Pen, which won the jayvee game 37-34, will host Munising Monday and BR-H will visit Rapid River Monday.
