Another 'wierd' quesiton from the bowels of the Daily Press... hmmm, do "YOU" 'expect' to be better off economically in 2012? There can be only ONE answer to that question, "Yes".. because what 'else' would you expect? If you expect doom and gloom, there's pills that can help with that.. it's called 'depression' and it's a killer.. Yes! twice times two, I 'expect' to be better off

Finlander, The more that you talk, the more that you make it clear that you're a perfect representation with everything that's wrong with the UP. Your willing ignorance to reality is completely astounding. You ask for facts and then completely ignore them when they're presented. You sling insults while not having the courage to attach your real name to it. You are a disgrace to the Upper Peninsula and its residents as well as to the country of Finland, its citizens, and those who decend from its citizens.

Finlander, Are you seriously manipulating my name to be an insult? How immature are you? I've tried to have a reasonable and rational discussion about the topic at hand, but you've clearly demonstrated how that's impossible. Here you are, hiding behind the anonymity of the internet, slinging insults to make yourself feel better, while people are trying to have a real conversation about the future of our nation. Grow up. Have the personal integrity to put your real name behind what you say and I may begin to take you seriously. As for the facts, it's called the text of the actual bill. Here it is, since I can guarantee that you haven't actually bothered to read it.

Abbott, You're right, my number is incorrect. All I did was take the 9/9/9 and add them together. It's called an estimation.

The reality of HR25 is actually worse than my number inicates. The way the legislation is worded, the tax would be 23% of the total purchase (for every $100 spent, $23 is tax), which is not how sales tax is currently calculated. Once you adjust that number to reflect how all Americans currently understand sales tax to work ($23 tax on a $77 purchase, or $100 in total), that number comes out to be 30%, higher than what I had estimated.

My mistake, not resale taxes but resale of previously purchased items. And lobbyists can't lobby over taxation because the field is the same. If you owned a Company, would not this be a great country to bring your business to ? I think so, remember, the "FAIR TAX" elimanates 23 per cent of embedded taxes and a whole lot more. Read the book on Fair Tax.

Bryan, I disagree totally. The Fair Tax is fair. The quotes were to emphasize what many many people don't even realize is an alternative. Even if I'm poor, I should pay some for toward living in the greatest country in the world. Do you really think the rich will spend less? It also does away with FICA & Soc. Sec. taxes, resale taxes, Corporate Taxes, Estate Taxes, and Income taxes. And it is 23 percent, not 27 percent. Also it includes a poverty level that will give rebates monthly to the poor for taxes paid. What part are you missing ?

Michigan is one of the worst states economically. Because the state won't cut worthless state workers and state funding. If your wondering why Michigan is so broke, ask a state worker the next time you see them. Ask what they are doing driving around for no good reason. For example why do we have 10+ state police troopers in delta county, when we already have a Sheriffs department and city police departments? How many police do you need in a county that has a low crime rate? WASTE OF MONEY!

Long one of the most productive states in the union, Michiganians enjoy household net worths somewhat higher than the national average, and with the automotive industry appearing to be on the rebound and lots of new business investments, the Great Lakes State should see better days ahead. With a higher-than-average concentration of unionized workers, it has a relatively low rate of uninsured citizens. But Michigan has a lot of poverty, it's currently tied with South Carolina for the nation's third highest unemployment rate and just under half of its jobless have been out of work for a half-year or more.

Unemployment rate: 10.9 percent

Share of unemployed out of work for more than 27 weeks: 49.8 percent

Per capita income: $34,893

Median household net worth, as a percentage of national average: 107 percent

Poverty rate (2008): 14.4 percent

Share of the population without health insurance: 13 percent

Foreclosure rate: 4.0 percent

Abbott, I can generally get behind what you're saying here, except for this "Fair Tax" bit. I like that you put it in quotes. It deserves it. In reality, the "Fair Tax" is hardly fair. All it is is taking Herman Cain's 9/9/9 plan and turning it into a 27/0/0 plan. This unfairly burdens the poor and working classes, as they (as a % of income) consume more just to get by. While, conceptually, the idea of the "Fair Tax" is sound, in practice, it only works when income inequality is low. In our current society, it will only exacerbate the problem.

If the Marxist stays this country will be toast. That simple ! Do we need to fix Corporate control of Congress ? Absolutely. It starts by introducing the "Fair Tax" which will take all taxation power from lobbyists and Congressmen. They cannot manipulate it. People have to learn that term limits do exist, so easy, vote the ins out. Brilliant heh ! Quit ******** and do something to help. So sad everyone has the open hands instead of getting off their duff and helping.
