Kay VanBrocklin of Gladstone, at right, checks out the selection of quilt blocks that were on display during the Ladies Day event at the U.P. State Fair on Friday as she considers her selection for the People's Choice Award that was announced during the event. The quilt blocks were created by area individuals for entry in a Quilt Block Contest held in celebration of the Fair's fifth year of successful operation as a Upper Peninsula event. The blocks were judged on originality and workmanship and will be made into a quilt that will be raffled off or displayed in the near future.
“The Midway,” above, created by Sally Zimmer of Bark River was the blue ribbon winner selected by a team of judges in the Quilt Block Contest.
