DALLAS, Texas - Eight women from Upper Michigan and Northern Wisconsin joined with approximately 800 others to attend the 51st Annual Lutheran Women's Missionary Society (LWMS) Convention held in Dallas, Texas, in late June.
Members from over 880 Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) congregations meet annually at this international convention for mission support, spiritual renewal, inspiration and fellowship.
Those attending from the local area were Judy Reinke of Bondarel, Wis.; Joyce Czewin and Patricia Klienno of Iron Mountain; Jan Baker of Escanaba; Marvella Herbst and Linda Robinson of Hyde; Lorraine Kerr of Coleman, Wis.; and Gail Maxwell of Powers.

Attendees were provided multiple opportunities to meet home and world missionaries from as far away as Russia, China and Thailand. Several first-hand mission accounts were shared by the missionaries.
Other highlights of the convention included Bible studies, the presentation of over $37,000 each to WELS Home and World Mission projects, the Kids Care Project, and the kickoff of the new "Recharge, Reach Out, Rejoice!" spiritual growth campaign of the LWMS Awareness Committee.
This year's children's care project went to youngsters in Russia.
A highlight this year's conference was the Apache women singing hymns in their native Apache language.
The 52nd Annual LWMS Convention will be held in Rapid City, S.D., from June 25-28, 2015. The event will be hosted by the Black Hills Circuit, and the theme will be "Lift High the Cross in the Hills."
