Shay M. Sjoholm

GLADSTONE - Shay M. Sjoholm, 30, of 308 Ketcham St., Gladstone, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at his home in Gladstone.

Shay was born March 23, 1984, in Ishpeming the third son of Glenn C. and Roberta L. (Pascoe) Sjoholm. Shay grew up in Ishpeming Township and was a graduate of the Westwood High School, Class of 2003. While in high school, Shay participated in football, basketball, and tennis. He had been a longtime member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church where he was confirmed. In more recent years, Shay took up the game of golf which he enjoyed to play and was a member of the Irish Oaks Golf Club and a former member of the Wawonowin Country Club. Shay was an avid Chicago Bears fan, and also supported the Chicago White Sox.

Shay was currently employed by the State of Michigan as a corrections officer at the Alger Correctional Facility in Munising. He had also worked at Joseph's Supervalu in Ishpeming for many years.

Survivors include his parents, Glenn and Roberta (Pascoe) Sjoholm, who where longtime Ishpeming Township residents; brothers, Ryan (Amy) Sjoholm of Hartford, Wis., and Cole (Natasha) Sjoholm of Basalt, Colo.; aunts and uncles, Sue and Martin Tasson of Ishpeming, Mary Lou DeLorensi of Ishpeming, Bill and Nancy Hatch of Gwinn, Keith and Katha Sjoholm of Kaukauna, Wis. and Nancy Sjoholm of Ishpeming; several cousins; along with close friends, Tim and Angie Fleury and their daughter, Taylor, of Gladstone; and girlfriend, Samantha Corey of Munising.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ted and Ruth Sjoholm and William and Myrle Pascoe; along with aunts and uncles, Sandra Hatch, Lee Sjoholm, and Fran DeLorensi.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Inurnemnt will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services in the Bethel Lutheran Church Hall.

Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Michaud, Tim Fleury, Ryan Bergman, Jim Conradson, Steve Kuehl, Paul Brunngraeber, Carl Carlson and Matt Ricketts.
