GRAND LEDGE, Mich. - Irene Marie (Auger) Yirsa, longtime resident of Gladstone, passed away July 7, 2014, at the age of 94 while residing with her son, John W. Yirsa, and wife, Pat, of 7504 Roxborough Lane, Grand Ledge, Mich., 48837.
She was born in Schaffer on Jan. 18, 1920, to Victor and Angeline Auger and was one of 14 children.
She is survived by son, John W. (Pat) Yirsa of Grand Ledge, Mich.; grandchildren, Bryan and Ann Marie (Yirsa) Nieciak of Chicago, Tom and Jennifer (Yirsa) Weston of Grand Ledge, Mich., Jason and Kim Yirsa of Grand Ledge, Mich., Carrie Yirsa of Naples, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Luke, Grace and Ben Weston, Mallory and Jacob Yirsa, Jack, Kyle and Bryan Nieciak; brother-in-law, Raymond Nelson of Green Valley, Ariz. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Angeline Auger; husband, John F. Yirsa; son, James F. Yirsa; sisters, Rose Hayden, Lucille Paulson, Jeanne Zupan, Christine Mack, Yvonne Cody, and Rita Hubka; special twin sister, Mary Maines; brothers, Henry Auger, Eugene Auger, and Emil Auger; infants, Lucy, Emil and Christine.
Irene owned the Yirsa Convalescent Home in Gladstone from 1951 to 1960. She was an avid bowler in the Gladstone area for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and donated hundreds of pairs of mittens to various charities. Many individuals still cherish the intricate sweaters Irene made for them. For many years Irene was the breakfast cook at the Terrace Bay where many enjoyed her famous sweet rolls and homemade bread.
Prayer services will be held privately by Irene's family. Donations may be directed to the Gladstone High School Scholarship Fund.
