If you can't do anything about the never-ending snowfall, you might as well enjoy it. And the youngsters in the physical education classes of Debra O'Connell at the Webster School did just that. O'Connell, pictured with her students, shows them a pair of snowshoes that they will be wearing and how they can put them on. Approximately 50 pairs of snowshoes were purchased for the school district about five years ago with funds from a physical education grant valued at $20,000. According to Webster principal, Jude VanDamme, the snowshoes not only provide physical exercise for the students, but also allows them to get outside even when there's lots of snow on the ground.
Practice makes perfect as the students walk along a fence in the schoolyard as they try out their snowshoes for the first time.
Then it was off to the races as Parker LaFond and Chloe Allen race each other in the snow.
