ESCANABA - Escanaba Public Safety is still investigating the cause of a garage fire that caused the evacuation of two people from a home on Escanaba's south side.

Escanaba Public Safety Officers responded to the home at 2111 12th Ave S., Escanaba, around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. Upon arriving on scene officers discovered a fire in the home's attached garage was causing smoke to build up in the garage and home.

The two occupants of the home, one of whom was disabled, were assisted out of the home by firefighters. Neither occupant was injured in the fire.

Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately 30 minutes and contained the fire to the garage. The garage received smoke and fire damage, and the home received minimal smoke damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Public Safety was assisted at the scene by Rampart EMS, the city electric department, and DTE gas company.
