William C. Anderson

ESCANABA - William C. Anderson, 64, of Escanaba, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 27, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Bill was born June 23, 1949, in Escanaba, the son of Elmer and Ann (Gehringer) Anderson. He was raised in Escanaba and was a 1968 graduate of Holy Name High School. In March of 1969, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in the Philippines, serving during the Vietnam War.

On May 1, 1971, Bill was united in marriage to his loving wife, Jane, at St. Patrick Church in Escanaba, and together they resided on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base until Bill's honorable discharge in March of 1973. Together, Bill and Jane returned home to Escanaba where they raised their family and have resided since. Bill was employed at Harnischfeger Corporation from 1973 to 1982. He later went on to work in dispatch at Escanaba Public Safety until his retirement in 2004. Bill loved hunting with his sons, Eric and Mike, and spending time with family and friends at his hunting camp.

In addition to his loving wife, Jane, Bill is survived by: sons, Eric Anderson of Danforth, Mich., and Mike Anderson of Escanaba, Mich.; brother, Arnold (Verlynn) Anderson of Escanaba, Mich.; sister, Patricia Leask of Escanaba, Mich.; granddaughters, Megan and Amanda Anderson. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ann, and his brother, Roger Anderson.

Bill's family will receive friends on Thursday, March 13, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at St. Anne Church in Escanaba. Military rites will follow visitation at 4:30 p.m. at St. Anne Church with the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71 presiding. Mass of Christian Burial services will follow military rites at 5 p.m. on Thursday at St. Anne Church in Escanaba with Rev. Fr. Fran DeGroot officiating. Luncheon will follow in the St. Anne Parish Hall. Memorial contributions in Bill's name may be directed to the Delta County Cancer Alliance. Envelopes will be available throughout visitation or at the Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County.
