ESCANABA - Three community gatherings featuring bands, activities, and food vendors are being scheduled this summer in Escanaba. They were announced at Thursday's Escanaba City Council meeting.

Funding for the events is being provided by money left over from last year's Esky150 Sesquicentennial Celebration, explained City Manager Jim O'Toole. The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is also supplying funds, he said.

A committee has been meeting to schedule a community gathering one day a month during June, July and August at the municipal dock area.

On June 7, the band Say What is scheduled to perform from 5 to 10 p.m. There are plans for a dunk tank and a bounce house along with food and beer vendors. The city is planning to host its vehicle rodeo on this day along with the fire safety smoke house.

On July 5, the band Cadillacs is set to perform from 5 to 10 p.m. The National Guard Obstacle Course is scheduled for the community gathering along with a dunk tank, bounce house, and food and beer sales.

On Aug. 2, Jellyheads will be the featured band from 5 to 10 p.m. A venetian night is scheduled for the evening. The city is looking to schedule a water ski show for earlier in the day. A dunk tank, bounce house, and food and beer vendors will also be available.

The Waterfront Art Festival also takes place in Ludington Park on Aug. 2.

"This is what we have been able to schedule so far," said O'Toole. "More may be added."

Council approved the city using the municipal dock for the community gatherings from noon to 10 p.m. on the three days this summer.
