Andre Henri Quaghebeur

ESCANABA - Andre Henri Quaghebeur, 85, 3662 14.75 Lane, Escanaba, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born on Aug. 25, 1928, in Proven, Belgium, son of Remi and Cordula (Verbrigghe) Quaghebeur. Andre came to the United States on the Queen Mary in 1950 and resided in St. Nicholas and in 1956 he became a U.S. citizen in Marquette. In 1961, he moved to Pine Ridge. Andre graduated from Escanaba High School in 1976.

Andre married Grace Budinger at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock on February 19, 1955.

Andre worked at the burning table cutting large pieces of steel for the cranes with a torch at Harnischfeger until their closure and then was the grounds foreman for 28 years at the fairgrounds.

He enjoyed farming, hunting and camping. Andre was an active member of the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Good Sam's Club, Amvets, Harnischfeger Retirees Club, and Elks Lodge 354.

Among survivors include his wife of 58 years, Grace of Escanaba; two sons, Steven Quaghebeur of Pine Ridge and Todd (Chris) Quaghebeur of Gladstone; daughters, Tina (Sam) Hunt of Gladstone and Carla (Randy) McCauley of Rapid River; eight grandchildren, Michelle, Ken, and Nick Quaghebeur, Andrea and Sarah McCauley, Ellisha Roberts, Remi Hunt and Jacob Quaghebeur; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Bridget; brother, Willy Quaghebeur; and sister, Marie DeMuys

Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 17, from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Knights of Columbus will have the rosary at 3 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow 6 p.m. at St. Anne's Church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating.

A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
