Maurice R. ‘Moe’ Chandler

COOKS - Maurice R. "Moe" Chandler, 87, of 1108S County Road 442, Cooks, Mich., passed away peacefully at home Saturday morning, Jan. 4, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

Moe was born June 23, 1926, in Dunbar, Wis., the son of Arthur and Maude (Seymour) Chandler and attended high school in Iron Mountain, Mich.

He proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II.

On June 2, 1956, Moe married the former Marcellien Lund in Detroit, Mich. In 1958 they moved from the Detroit area to Cooks where they made their home.

Moe worked for Procks Construction for over 20 years, retiring in 1969.

He was a member of the Cooks Congregational Church.

Moe enjoyed doing carpentry work and visiting with people. His real enjoyment came from visiting with his grandchildren. Moe loved singing with Laurie and the Big Spring Boys.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marcellien Chandler of Cooks, Mich.; children, Diana (Dave) Turner of Eaton, Ohio, Randy (Diane) Chandler of Strasburg, Va., Bert Chandler, Ann (Terry) Bradshaw and John (Renee) Chandler, all of Cooks, Mich., and Roxanne (Bill) Lawrence of Escanaba, Mich.; 11 grandchildren, Brenda, Dana, Jay, Stacy, Brandi, Randi Lynn, Jamie, Nathan, Jenna, Clayton and Jordyn; and 14 great-grandchildren, Alex, Morgan, Derek, Ashley, Zach, Coty, Kyleigh, Isaiah, Micah, Rocquel, Whitney, Kaleia, Taleise, and Josiah. Moe is further survived by his brother, Willie (Joanne) Chandler of Quinnesec; his sister, Barbara Chandler of Virginia; and several special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Moe was preceded in death his brother, John (Chick) Chandler; and sisters, Harriet Lucianni, Verle Spangler, Jeannie Antonini and his twin sister, Doris Kroll.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Cooks Congregational Church. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. at the church with Pastor Darrell Pazzala officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in the Inwood Township Cemetery in Cooks.

The Messier-Broullire Funeral Home of Manistique is assisting the family with arrangements.
