STEPHENSON - Mary E. Massoni, 74, of Stephenson, Mich., passed away on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Roubal Care and Rehab Center following a 15 month battle with cancer. The former Mary Vander Zanden was born on April 28, 1939, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Henry and Margaret (Wargo) Vander Zanden. On May 10, 1963, Mary married Leonard Massoni in Chicago, Ill. She worked as a bank teller, a job she greatly enjoyed, and in her younger years owned and operated a Notion and Flower Store in Toluca, Ill. Mary enjoyed playing the piano, going to plays and musicals, and working with the Menominee Women's Club on the International committee. Above all else, taking care of her grandchildren is what brought Mary the most joy.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Leonard of Stephenson, Mich.; four children, Susan (Jeff) Mohr of Jackson, Mich., Paul (Carol) Massoni of Downers Grove, Ill., David (Jenny) Massoni of Lindenhurst, Ill., and Mark (Bessie) Massoni of Traverse City, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Erin, Anna, Vincent, Payton and Zackary.
Family and friends may call at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 10, after 4 p.m. until time of Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Father Ronald Timock officiating on Saturday, Jan. 11, at Precious Blood Catholic Church. Burial will immediately follow in Gardens of Rest Cemetery, Escanaba, Mich.
