Kay Ann MacGillis

GLADSTONE - Kay Ann MacGillis, 77, of Gladstone, passed over Saturday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2013.

Kay was born Oct. 4, 1936, in Escanaba, the daughter of Roy and Catherine (Cholette) Peterson. Following the untimely death of her father, Roy, Kay's mother, Catherine, eventually married her adoptive father, Robert Dunford. Kay and her family resided in Detroit for a number of years before moving to Escanaba. Kay was a 1954 graduate of the Escanaba High School. On Dec. 27, 1958, Kay was united in marriage to Roderick MacGillis at St. Joseph Church in Escanaba, and together, the couple gave birth to their only child, their daughter, Shawn. Kay and Rod resided in lower Michigan for the majority of their marriage. Throughout the years, Kay was employed at University Hospital in Ann Arbor. Following the birth of their daughter, Kay remained at home and volunteered her time for the Okemos Public Schools in Okemos, Mich. The family moved to Chandler, Ariz. In 2005, they moved to Gladstone, where they have lived since.

In addition to her husband Rod, Kay is survived by her loving daughter, Shawn MacGillis of Gladstone; sisters, Haila (Gerald) Halverson of Surprise, Ariz., Pamela (Leonard) Gatien of Manitowoc, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Kay (Gerald) Englund of Ford River, Beverly (Robert) Miller of Gladstone.

Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Roy, Robert, and Catherine; brother, Robert Dunford; brother-in-law, John "Jack" MacGillis.

Kay's family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 4 to 5 p.m., at St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial services will follow visitation at 5 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Fran DeGroot officiating. Luncheon will follow in the St. Anne Parish Hall. Kay will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in the spring. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the MacGillis family with arrangements.
