Lila (Sanville) Mackie

GLADSTONE - Lila (Sanville) Mackie, 84, formerly of Gladstone, passed away on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba.

Lila was born April 13, 1929 in Trenary, Mich., the daughter of Toivo and Helmi (Seppanen) Samanen. She was raised mostly in Watson and graduated from the Gwinn High School. Lila was united in marriage to Archie "Bub" Sanville Jr. They lived in Cornell until Bub's passing in 1964. Lila moved to Gladstone and later married John Mackie. Lila worked at the Log Cabin Restaurant and Kresge's store in Escanaba and was a member of the Gladstone American Legion Auxiliary. She was a Detroit Lions fan, an avid golfer and former member of the Gladstone Golf Club.

Lila is survived by three sons, Steve Sanville of Cornell, Jeff (Debbie) Sanville and Ed (Sheila) Sanville, both of Gladstone; two daughters, Judy Terrien and Audrey (Bob) Lauscher, both of Gladstone; stepsons, John Mackie Jr., Donald (Sherry) Mackie, Brian Mackie and Lawrence Mackie; stepdaughter, Cindy Mackie; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sonja Joyce of Florida and Irene "Ija" Johnson of Eben and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Archie "Bub" Sanville Jr.; her second husband, John Mackie; her parents; stepfather, William Johnson; sister, Nancy Larson; brother, Elmer Samanen; and daughter-in-law, Beverly Sanville.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Peggy Rose officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Gladstone American Legion. Lila will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.

Lila's family would like to extend their appreciation for the compassion and care Lila received from the staff at the Christian Park Health Care Center and from Dr. Jamie Longhurst.
