Vivian M. Smith

MANISTIQUE - Vivian Mae Smith, 88, of Manistique, Mich., died Nov. 16, 2013, at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.

She was born April 12, 1925, in Thompson, Mich., the daughter of Thomas P. and Barbara A. (Krusic) Smith. Vivian was a graduate of Manistique High School and a graduate of The Upper Peninsula Beauty Academy of Iron Mountain, Mich.

Vivian lived for many years in the Green Bay, Wis., area where she was employed as a housekeeper for several area priests. She was an accomplished pianist and was also the organist at daily Mass. Vivian was very active in her faith. One of her most memorable experiences was a trip to Israel to fulfill her lifelong dream of visiting the Holy Land.

She relocated to Essexville, Mich., until her retirement when she returned to Manistique. For many years she served as a "Grandmother" at Lakeside Elementary School in the Foster Grandparents program.

She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish in Manistique and sang in the Resurrection Choir.

Vivian is survived by her sister, Lillian Faye (Merrill) Archey of Manistique; sister-in-laws, Roberta (the late Donald) Smith and June Ann (the late Marvin) Smith; several nieces and nephews; and her special grand-nephew, Nick Benedetto.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Barbara Cook, Ernest Smith, Amos Smith, Thomas Smith, June Gosnell, Bernard Smith, Donald Smith and Marvin Smith.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Father Glenn Theoret officiating.

Burial will follow in the Thompson Township Cemetery at Thompson, Mich.

Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Francis de Sales Education Foundation.
