ST. IGNACE - After leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle in Mackinac County, three people were arrested and lodged in jail on Thursday, according to the county sheriff's department.
Two adult males from western lower Michigan were arraigned on various charges.
The driver of the vehicle Levi Hamilton, 18, of Fremont, Mich., has been arraigned on several charges in the 92nd District Court in Mackinac County.
The charges include attempting to flee or elude police and possession of a stolen vehicle both 5 year felonies, and 4 misdemeanors including contributing to the delinquency of a minor, larceny of gas, reckless driving and a license plate violation.
One of the passengers was also arraigned in court. Vance Demorest, 17, of Cedar Springs, Mich., was charged with attempting to flee or elude police and possession of a stolen vehicle both 5 year felonies, and two misdemeanors including contributing to the delinquency of a minor and larceny of gas.
Both are being held on $20,000 bonds.
A second passenger, a 16 year old juvenile, was turned over to juvenile authorities.
While responding to a gas drive-off from a Naubinway business at 8:05 a.m., deputies located the suspect vehicle traveling west on U.S. 2 near Gould City. After stopping for the deputy, the vehicle sped away with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour during an 11-mile chase with police.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed at an intersection. The deputy arrested the driver but two passengers fled into the woods. Shortly after, they were apprehended by deputies and a Michigan State Police K-9 team.
The vehicle was reported stolen from downstate Kent County.
