Orville L. Harrison

COOKS - Orville L. Harrison, 91, of Cooks, died Oct. 11, 2013, at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.

He was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Worth Township, Sanilac County, Mich., the son of Elmer and Mildred (Dobbyn) Harrison and graduated from high school in Yale, Mich.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Merchant Marines.

On Aug. 1, 1952, he married the former Ollie J. Eldridge in Wyandotte, Mich. They lived in the Detroit, Taylor and Garden City, Mich., areas before moving to Cooks in 1986 following retirement.

Orville was employed by General Motors as a stationary engineer at their Cadillac Motor Plant.

He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Manistique, was a life-member of the Schoolcraft V.F.W. Post 4420 of Manistique, the American Legion Post 83 of Manistique, the Merchant Marine Association and the Nahma Golf Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

Orville is survived by his wife, Ollie J. Harrison of Cooks; son, Eddy C. Harrison of Cooks; daughter, Alice (Dennis) Wallot of Wayne, Mich.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Beverly) Harrison of Croswell, Mich., and Cecil (Barbara) Harrison of Jeddo, Mich.; sisters, Avis Hale of Port Huron and Aleitha Johnson of Paw Paw, Mich.; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wendell and Keith Harrison; and his sister, Wylla Courtney.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Joseph Crowder officiating.

Burial will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the New Berlin Cemetery in Berville, Mich.

Memorial donations may be directed to the American Legion Post 83 of Manistique.
