Charles John ‘Chuck’ Macki

RAPID RIVER - Charles John "Chuck" Macki, 73, of 9285 U.S. Hwy 2, Rapid River, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 10, 2013, at home following a lengthy illness.

Chuck was born June 9, 1940, in Crystal Falls, the son of Carl and Mildred (Johnson) Macki. He was raised in Crystal Falls where he was a 1958 graduate of Crystal Falls High School. Following graduation, Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Navy from August of 1959 to August of 1963. Upon his honorable discharge, Chuck was employed by the Soo Line Railroad and later the Wisconsin Central Railroad. Chuck began his career with the railroad as an operator and later worked as a dispatcher, finally "tieing up" (retiring) in July 2000 as a trainmaster.

Chuck was united in marriage to the former Kathy Alanko on Dec. 28, 1991, at their home in Rapid River.

Chuck's hobbies included golfing, bowling and spending time with his dogs at home. He was an avid U.M. and Detroit Tigers/Lions fan.

In addition to his wife Kathy, survivors include son, Dean (Carrie) Macki of Crown Point, Ind.; daughter, Deanna (Brad) Dubay of Linwood, Mich.; stepson, Kevin Conery of Menominee; stepdaughter, Kathy (Al) Shepherd of Green Bay; grandchildren, Jason, Troy and Cameron Mauhar of Linwood, Mich.; father and mother-in-law, Charlie and Mary Alanko of Gladstone.

Military rites conducted by the Gladstone American Legion Post 71 will be held on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Services celebrating the life of Charles John Macki will follow military rites with Rev. Chris Johnson officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the church fellowship hall. Memorial contributions in memory of Chuck may be directed to the Delta County Cancer Alliance or the Delta County Animal Shelter. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Macki family.
