CRYSTAL FALLS - An Iron River man who accidentally shot himself with a pistol this weekend, was treated and released from a local hospital, according to the Iron County Sheriff's Department.
Nicholas Kegley, 32, was cleaning a .22 caliber pistol while waiting in his vehicle for a friend on Saturday. Kegley and friends had been camping and hunting together near Perch River in Bates Township when the incident happened at noon.
While cleaning the gun, Kegley unintentionally chambered a live cartridge and discharged the firearm, he told officers. The bullet struck him in the upper left leg then lodged in the driver's door of his vehicle.
Kegley was taken by his friend to Northstar Hospital in Iron River where he was treated for the gunshot wound then later released, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
