PORTAGE - Francis W. Richel, 92, of Portage, and formerly of Michigan, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013. He was born on Oct. 4, 1920, in Gladstone, to Frank and Lillian Richel (nee Quinn). Francis served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and repairing things in his spare time. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his four children, Dennis (Mary) Richel of Portage, Steven Richel of Chicago, Linda (Edward) Porembski of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Timothy Richel of Lombard, Ill; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; other dear family and friends.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Richel.
Funeral services for Francis will be Saturday, Sept. 21, beginning with prayers at 10 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, then going in procession to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2447 Putnam St., Lake Station for a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will take place Monday, Sept. 23, at 12 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 27034 S. Diagonal Rd., Elwood, Ill.
